Solving chess puzzles from your own online chess games can improve your rating, helping understand key moments where wrong decisions were made and giving you the opportunity to learn from your mistakes.
In this article we will be explaining how you can set up Personal Puzzle Training on ChessPuzzler.com, so our puzzle finding engine can read your own chess games and generate puzzles for you.
Step 1 - Login
First make sure you are logged in so you can configure your online chess accounts. If you don't have an account you will need access to an email - register here: Register
Step 2 - Configure Your Accounts
Once logged in, head to the Personal Training page and enter your Chess.com or Lichess.org username into the correct box (you can enter both if you have accounts on both websites). Then click save to save the settings. You can always go back here later and change the settings.
Step 3 - Wait for Chess Puzzles to Be Found
Within a couple of minutes our service will pick up your details and start processing your games. It typically takes about 10 minutes from clicking save to getting your first batch of puzzles generated. You can keep checking by refreshing the Personal Training page until you see your puzzles appear.
Step 4 - Solve Puzzles From Your Own Games
Now it's time to solve your puzzles! By clicking on the 'More' button from the Personal Training Page, you can filter your puzzles by Time Control, Puzzle Type, Previously Solved and whether it was Missed in the real game. You can also order your puzzles in a number of ways, including difficulty and date/time.
When solving puzzles, there is a link on the top left of the board. This will take you to the page on chess.com or lichess.org where the game occurred so you can rewatch the whole game!
The puzzle service will find about 1 puzzle per 10 games. This is because it is quite rare in chess to find positions where there is only one sequence of best moves and no others. So, the more games you have played on your chess.com/lichess account, the better the results will be. However, if you do only have a few games you can still set it up and the service will automatically pick up newly played games every day from your account.
